Budget update:
The House Subcommittee on Appropriations met last week and voted to roll the Governor’s proposed $3 mil into the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ System Core budget. Our core stayed flat.
The budget committee plans to meet next week and will further discuss and needs to vote to approve before it heads to the floor for debate and then to the Senate Approps.
Legislative Update:
HJR 72 – Basye, which would put on the ballot a measure to appropriate an amount equal to 10% of the total annual revenue collected up to $2 million dollars from the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Veterans’ Health and Care Fund be appropriated to the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ School of Law Veterans Clinic, was brought up on the floor for debate on Wednesday and then laid over.
Sports gaming/wagering – Cody Smith 2284 and Christofanelli 2318/SB 567 Hoskins and SB 764 Luetkemeyer
The House Bills were heard last Tuesday. The royalty fees that would apply to the university and also the protective prop bet language for our athletes were eliminated from the language. The Senate heard SB 754 and SB 567 on Wednesday morning, and SB 754 eliminated the royalty fees but kept in the prop bet language.
House Bill 1790, sponsored by Rep. Jason Chipman was heard in his committee on Career Readiness. This bill would prohibit universities from requiring students to live on campus more than 1 year or 2 semesters.
Bill filing closed on Friday and candidate filing started last Tuesday.
Dusty Schnieders, Dr. Choi, Chancellor Agrawal, Chancellor Dehghani, and Inteirm Chancellor Sobolik were in D.C. meeting with ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s Federal Delegates this week to discuss UM System priorities.
